Early Life and Education
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in the small town of Rameswaram, India. From a humble background, Kalam pursued his passion for science and engineering, graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1954 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
Aerospace Career
Kalam joined the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1963, where he played a pivotal role in India's early space programs. He was responsible for developing the country's first indigenously built satellite, the Aryabhata, launched in 1975. Kalam's contributions to India's space program earned him the moniker "The Missile Man of India."
Political Career
In 2002, Kalam was elected the 11th President of India, a position he held until 2007. During his presidency, he advocated for scientific advancement, technological development, and education. Kalam became known as the "People's President" due to his humble demeanor and his ability to connect with ordinary citizens.
Legacy
